Google Profile Photos

Top Right corner of the Google+ Profile PageSetting your profile picture is nice and easy, as you would expect, but you dont’ just have to have the one.

On my Google+ profile I’ve uploaded 2 profile pictures.  If you click on the image you’ll see a nice CSS3  transition effect as the picture spins and the second picture becomes visible.

Clicking a second time reverts the image back to the original image, if there were more photos then they would be shown until the cycle returned to the first photo. There might be a limit, I’ve only tried up to 4 photos and if anyone knows of a limit please let me know.

Adding additional Profile Photos

On your profile page, accessed via either clicking on your Profile picture or via the Profile button in the header area, click “Edit Profile”.  You’ll see the page change and a bunch of tools to edit your profile.

Top left area of the Select Profile Photo dialogUnder your Picture there’s a “change photo” link, clicking this will open a popup that allow you to upload another photo, select from photos of you (one’s you’re tagged in or from you albums.

That’s it, once you have uploaded more than one Profile Photo you’re friends, and you will be able to cycle through them on your profile.

Removing Profile Photos

Profile picture with a grey cross in the top left to remove it.

If, like me, you’ve uploaded too many or some you don’t like they are super easy to remove.

When you’re in edit mode on your profile you will see a grey box with a white cross in the top left of your profile pictures.  Clicking this will remove it from the photos that are cycled on your profile.

Are they going to go further?

It would be really nice if your were able to select the which of your friends profile photos would appear on your streams.

I’ve seen a number of Facebook users with the a group shot that more than one person has used. It would be great if we could  open a friend’s profile, cycle through their Profile Photos and select the one I wanted to see on my stream. This way if a group of friends used the same profile photo it would be easy change it and distinguish their posts.
